The Worst Day EVER! February 28, 2009

A few days ago I took Taelyn for his Kindergarten immunizations. Though I had booked the appointment several weeks ago, I postponed telling him about the appointment until just minutes before we left for the Health Center. After telling him the news, Taelyn burst into tears and proclaimed the day; “The worst day ever”. As much as I understood his anguish and fear, as a parent with knowledge beyond what my child could understand, I had to make the choice to let him suffer for a short while. I knew that he would benefit from my decision and be stronger in the future because of it. Yes, the shots would hurt, and my heart broke as they stuck the first needle and saw the tears well up in his little eyes. Yes, there was some discomfort later, but I love my child more than anything and I want to protect him from some future dreadful circumstances. Do you see where I am going with this? We all go through painful situations, and I have, at the time, declared specific days of my life the “worst day ever.” However, hindsight provides an interesting perspective, one that I did not have going into those circumstances. In most cases, the “worst day ever” has proven to be a turning point for me, and one that leads directly to God. Could it be that our Heavenly Father loves you and I so much, that for a short time He is allows us to go through pain. His heart breaks when He sees the tears well up in our eyes, but He loves you and I too much not to protect you from some future dreadful circumstances.
